Campbell was his typical lively self as he made his second start for French club, Lorient.

The young, Costa Rican started up front alongside former gunner Jeremie Aliadiere, once again, and impressed. Joel, typically, found himself all over the pitch as he helped the side defend and made runs to help split the Rennes defence. Christian Gourcuff, Lorient’s manager, appears to have placed him in somewhat of a free role, which he shines in.

Campbell came close to scoring on two occassions for Lorient. Once with a rasping volley that flew just wide and again as he ran onto a flick on but was beaten to it by the goalkeeper, who stood up well.

Joel’s more than just a goalscorer, though, and showed as much with some brilliant set up play for his teammates. At 2:09 of the video you see Campbell dropping deep and delivering a superb half-volley pass over the top and onto Aliadiere’s well-timed run. On 2:47 Campbell shows his ability to play wide by floating in a beautiful cross, only for it to be headed over by Mathias Autret.

The loanee continues to prove his ability to both create chances for himself and others. With more game time hopefully around the corner, Campbell could be ready to light up Europe soon enough.
